Creekside Family Restaurant at Deadwood Gulch Resort is a local favorite
By Traci Wangen, LCJ correspondent
The Creekside Family Restaurant at the Deadwood Gulch Resort is a local favorite. The family restaurant is brightly lit, impeccably clean and staffed with some of Deadwood’s friendliest faces eager and ready to serve any hungry appetite.
A local, Brian Pickering, has risen to the rank of head chef after spending a year and a half in his apprenticeship. Brian is a local boy from Whitewood and understands exactly what locals like to eat, making Creekside Family Restaurant popular with local families and Deadwood casino workers.
Breakfast features all the classics, from eggs and bacon to biscuits and gravy. Choose to have your eggs served with country fried steak, sirloin or trout. Of course, thick pancakes and French toast are available with vanilla, cinnamon and powdered sugar. Breakfast is served daily from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Nachos, mozzarella sticks and beer battered onion rings can all be ordered for around $5, leaving enough to spend on a hearty entrée and dessert. The menu has one of the largest selections of salads in Deadwood, from the classic Caesar salad to the specialty Mother Lode Salad with roasted turkey, eggs, and all the fixings. Homemade soup is always available and changes each day.
“The philly cheese steak with melted cheese, grilled onions and peppers is the most popular lunch item,” Pickering said. “Or perhaps the French dip?”
Order a deli sandwich, BLT or Reuben with fries, side salad or a cup of soup, all homemade and very reasonably priced. Diners can also try the most popular burger, the Jack Daniels — a 6-ounce sirloin burger topped with bacon, Swiss cheese and whiskey glaze.
Next to the steak selections, the pasta and seafood menu boasts old favorites like fish and chips, stroganoff with beef and mushrooms, spaghetti, and chicken Alfredo. The Alaskan Halibut is also popular, grilled and served with soup or salad, German blend vegetables and a choice of potato.
On the lighter side, guests can also order a hot beef sandwich with gravy and mashed potatoes or choose from several varieties of wraps.
A prime rib and crab buffet will be featured at the Creekside Restaurant this New Year’s Eve from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Regular hours are from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at the Deadwood Gulch Resort on Cliff St. in Deadwood, just past the hospital.
